Goodooga Artesian Baths and Silo Art.

Western NSW and Queensland has many outdoor hot water pools fed by hot water from artesian bore baths. What a pleasure it is, after a long drive on the road to pop by and have a soak.
Popular amongst the grey nomads, this bathing facility has free camping. It is well set up with toilets and showers.  Did all my ailments disappear, am I 20 years younger ? Well, my  foot is still aching after surgery in January .....
Not many of the bathers were interested in the fitness side of the 'health' spa. One exception - me ! Using the body as to provide resistive weight, this equipment gave me a fair workout.
I love the work and sheer scale of the silo art works that are popping up in many parts of the Australian countryside. It is easy to make a holiday just following the various sites. They can be found by
  • Google Maps by searching Silo Art

The one I visited in Queensland was the Graincorp silos at Thallon.

Titled ‘The Watering Hole’ the mural portrays the Thallon district and its surrounding area to perfection. It features the Moonie River, an amazing Thallon sunset and the area’s agricultural base. It also recognises members of Thallon’s indigenous community by the inclusion of a scarred tree.

The overall inspiration for the mural comes from the work of three local photographers. They are Chantel McAlister’s ‘First Light’, the ‘Moonie River’ by Lila Brosnan and Gary Petrie’s shot of two pale face rosellas. ‘The Watering Hole’ was created from just a single A4 drawing, the imagination of the artists Joel and Travis and the Thallon Community.

The giant mural, which covers four 30 metre high silos took just three weeks to complete using about 500 litres of paint and 500 paint spray cans. Conditions for painting the mural were also perfect.

The cotton fields are vast in the Queensland countryside. They make an impressive view when in bloom.
Environmentalists are probably not keen on  the open sided bales and the litter on the side of the roads with accompanying weed growth as a result. The price we pay for supplying the world with this important crop.
In two successive days I visited two different spas. The Great Artesian Spa in Mitchell, Queensland was a more commercial orientated venue ie  a small payment was required.
On offer this night was a roast dinner in the evening. Even though I was well equipped with food - a roast dinner, support the local community, why not ?
The Artesian bore baths are spread around the Australian interior. There is a huge aquifer underground sitting over hot rock. They can be found by searching the Internet eg:
